New York State is one of the most beautiful spots I’ve ever seen in this world — Manhattan could never survive were it not surrounded by our nation’s lushest rivers, lakes, ocean and farmland.
It’s so good to get out of the city, to travel to the Hamptons or upstate, and be reminded how idyllic this part of the country really is. Right before winter turned to spring, we did just that — driving two hours north to Tannersville to cozy up at the Deer Mountain Inn for a few days.
Housed in a turn-of-the-century, Arts and Crafts-style, stone and wood house, Deer Mountain Inn is nestled atop the Great Northern Catskill Mountains and surrounded by fifteen acres of rolling lawns and woodlands. It’s an intimate, 6-room, rustically luxe hideaway. We filled the entire property with dear friends (and a trunk full of vintage Dom Pérignon!) and settled in for the most wonderful weekend.

It is always made from the best grapes of a single year, and thus its flavor is reinvented by interpreting the unique character of the seasons. During years when the harvest does not meet its ideal, no wine is released.
