James Dean For A Day

29th July, 2015

In an instance of life-imitating-a-Lou-Reed-song, last Friday we took a walk on the wild side and got to be James Dean for a day. The occasion was in celebration of Ralph Lauren’s new Automotive Eyewear range, for which the designer (and enthusiastic car collector) invited us borrow any car we wanted from the Classic Car Club of Manhattan, and take it for a day-long drive upstate.

As speed demons, adventure junkies, and classic car aficionados (we keep a 1970’s MG Midget out in Montauk and have spent this summer tooling around in a 1968 Buick LeSabre and 1957 Chevy Bel Air), we couldn’t resist the opportunity to take their 1956 Porsche 550 Spyder for a spin. It’s a super rare little speedster (they only made them for 3 years): built for racing and infamous for being the ride in which actor James Dean fatally crashed. In a nod to the icon, Zach wore a white tee and jeans, while I picked a dress and pin-up pumps that would have made Marilyn envious!JamesDean2WEARING| Ralph Lauren sunglasses and dress; Malone Souliers shoes (and hair styled by convertible!)JamesDean3
