5 Secrets For Surviving Winter

26th February, 2015

Nobody appreciates pretty underpinnings more than we; the importance of lacy little underthings should never be overlooked.

Unfortunately, this winter has left little room for such sweet nothings. The coldest in history, we’ve suffered one freeze after another, and the cycle seems unending. So, at the risk of allowing our love lives to suffer, we’ve wholeheartedly embraced 5 under-dressing secrets that definitely aren’t sexy, but keep us so warm we simply don’t care. Get into it, ladies and gents.

#1: Bodysuits under everything. Now this is actually a normal choice for us, but with a key seasonal switcheroo: instead of the barely-there ones we usually wear, this winter we’re choosing long- or 3/4-sleeve versions, the kind intended for ballerinas. It’s a tip we picked up from a girlfriend who always wears ballet leotards under her clothes in extremely hot climates, to wick any sweat before it hits her pretty silk dresses. Turns out, if you buy the ones with sleeves, they work just as well for cool climate insulation ~ without adding any bulk or wrinkles to whatever you layer on top.WinterSurvival2#2: In keeping with the ballerina theme, black tights are de rigueur.  A high denier provides serious freeze defense; when wearing pants, why not layer a pair underneath?! And let’s all be grateful that fashion technology has evolved beyond bulky long johns to make this option possible.WinterSurvival3#3: While one pair will do the job nicely with pants, two pairs are mandatory if you want to get serious with skirts and dresses.WinterSurvival4#4: If socks are in order, let them be SmartWool. Originally developed in Colorado around the mountain culture for outdoor enthusiasts, they now make a dressier version in ultra-light but super-warm Merino wool.WinterSurvival5#5: We hate wearing gloves (even though they can be so cute), so instead we stuff our coat pockets with hand warmers ~ a crew tip we picked up after so many cold location shoots. When these bad boys start cooking, you’ll feel like you’re curled up at home in front of the fire. Even in the middle of yet another blizzard.WinterSurvival6
