Romance + Whimsy

2nd February, 2015

“Oh, how I dreamt of things impossible.” ~ William Blake

Around the end of the 19th century, a young girl named Estelle Arpels ~ the daughter of a precious stones dealer ~ met a boy named Alfred Van Cleef, the son of a stone-cutter. It was the beginning of an iconic love story, an infamous adventure.

In 1895, they were married. The young lovers had much in common: youthful enthusiasm, a pioneering spirit, an ethic of family solidarity, and a passion for precious stones. Above all, they were inspired by the desire to create something lasting together ~ an urge that led them to found the Maison of Van Cleef & Arpels, a jewelry house where love is fundatmental.RomanceWhimsy2
Jewelry can contain so much meaning, for the talismans we wear carry the fantasies and reveries of both ourselves and the dreamers who made them. For lovers like Estelle and Alfred, jewelry can mean meeting someone and starting a life together. It can represent moments of personal victory, celebratory laurels you’ve bestowed upon yourself. Beautiful jewelry is absolute magic, sitting like fairy dust against our skin.

And so in celebration of February, the season of love, we present to you the ever-so-ethereal Nora Vai ~ a true-life Tinkerbell ~ in a fleet of fine jewelry straight out of a fairy tale.
