Naughty & Nice

16th December, 2014

Gucci’s Resort collection was a study in punchy pastels, reverberating best in a recurring floral motif designed by artist Kris Knight. The pattern references Gucci’s iconic Flora print, but Knight updated the idea by painting botanicals that blossom at night, plants with strong roots for persistence and resistance in harsh environments. His work tiptoes the dichotomies of pretty and menace.

The Gucci vibe’s a little like that, anyway. It’s a beautiful girl who knows when to be tough, floral prints paired with rock n’ roll leathers. It’s the darlingly brattish, tasseled backpack, ready to travel the world. It’s a horse bit bracelet in your holiday stocking, equestrian prep meets weekend delinquent, a scarf that’s naughty and  nice… It’s a glossy photo studio as much as it’s a gritty Brooklyn rooftop. It’s the kind of dichotomies we like to live, the sort of holiday we can’t wait to have.Gucci2
