Much Mistletoeing

Yesterday we showed you how Argentinians throw a party. Here’s how we  do it back in NYC! It involves a heaping pot of coq au vin, Ralph Lauren looks, more than a few whiskey cocktails and fun family photos (increasingly silly as the evening stretches on). We figure that if you’ve got to shoot a Christmas card, you might as well make it an occasion!

    To create a lush, cozy feeling, we covered our dinner table with vintage Japanese indigos, layered with leather chargers and a mélange of Ralph Lauren plates. Don’t be afraid to combine different china patterns if you don’t have enough matching pieces for a big party. Part of the charm is in the mix!

    Eschew a traditional centerpiece and instead drape evergreen branches down the center of the table, weaving in candlesticks, silver ornaments, votives, fall vegetables and wired Christmas ribbons. The idea is to ease everything into a relaxed visual dance, to allow your guests to feel spoiled, indulged and totally at ease.

  • Instead of hand-written place cards, print out pictures of each of your guests (try to choose images that relate to a memory you’ve shared together) and put them in small silver frames at each table setting ~ a personal keepsake your friends can take home at the end of the night!
