Laura Cantu’s Urban Nomads

21st November, 2014

Forever drawn to mythic and ancient symbolism, Monterrey, Mexico-based designer Laura Cantu creates handmade jewelry that tells a story, every piece imbued with meaning. Laura travels constantly, collecting ephemera, input and inspiration that she carries back home to the foothills of the Sierra Madre, where she works with local artisans to transform those experiences into truly unique accessory collections.

Bold centerpieces contrast with delicate, vintage-inspired details. Mixed metals pair with earthly elements left in the raw. Laura’s work is made for modern nomads, and I had the great pleasure of being invited to photograph four of my favorite vagabonds ~ Ann-Marie Hoang, Vashtie Kola, Athena Calderone and Chelsea Leyland ~ in celebration of her US launch. Our collaboration stems from a shared love of life on the road, an affinity for storytelling and a deep-rooted need to translate both the modesty and the grandeur of our experiences into something material, meaningful, beautiful.UrbanNomads2
