A Shopabout: London

6th November, 2014

British charm is evident everywhere you turn in London, from the posh boutiques of Regent Street to the high street hustle & bustle of Oxford Circus. We stayed in Central London, just a hop and a skip from Carnaby Street, a sort of outdoor mall of ample boardwalks, trendy shops and tucked-away alley eateries that feeds directly into Liberty, the ne plus ultra of London shopping destinations.
ShoppingLondon2Housed in a grand, 1920’s Tudor revival building, shopping at Liberty is an experience. Where else do Moroccan antiquities share retail space with classic calico prints sold to quilting enthusiasts, colorful shower caps and egg cups, Dries van Noten clothes and vast categories of chocolates?ShoppingLondon3 |ABOVE + BELOW| lost inside the wonderland that is LibertyShoppingLondon4 ShoppingLondon5 ShoppingLondon6 ShoppingLondon7 ShoppingLondon9 ShoppingLondon10 ShoppingLondon11|ABOVE| Heading to Harrods in an Equipment shirt, Everlane sweater, AYR harem pants, Chanel bag, Derek Lam shoes, Ippolita and Monica Rich Kosann necklaces, Michele watch

Harrods, another iconic London destination, takes Liberty’s anything-goes approach to merchandising and ups the ante. Their motto is Omnia Omnibus Ubique ~ All Things for All People, Everywhere (and man, do they mean it). The store sits upon a 5-acre footprint, and its sprawling, first floor Food Hall is absolutely awe-inspiring, with counters for everything from caviar to wedding cakes. Its 330 departments offer everything from Yves Saint Laurent hats to flat screen TV’s.
