The Oxford Circus

7th November, 2014

The British fashion scene has always seemed to me to belong to the rabble rousers ~ the stylish swashbucklers, the candy flippish freaks. The movement’s Queen Mother is undoubtedly Dame Vivienne Westwood, whose punk baton is carried hysterically forward by the cool kids in Shoreditch and cheeky designer upstarts like the faux furriers at Shrimps. It all looks like a lark, but there are serious messages lurking underneath the surface.

One afternoon in London, we rounded up a merry band of tricksters: Instagram sensation Mr. Whisper (also known as photographer and creative director Bal Bhatla), indie actress Emilyne Mondo (who we met in the Punch Room of The London Edition wearing a vintage Azzedine Alaïa jumpsuit and the widest-brimmed hat you ever did see), and makeup artist Rosie Speight (who used to work in finance but told her boss to shove it one afternoon and stormed out in search of deeper creative meaning). Together, we took to the streets of Oxford Circus, at first mildly but quickly, increasingly more mightily ~ in the true spirit of British style.OxfordCircus2 OxfordCircus3
