I Need The Sea { Because It Teaches Me }

NeedTheSeaInspired by the contrasting brutality of summer whites and wintery moonscape shorelines we shot for this recent story, I spent this past weekend wandering the Eastern seaside in ivory leather, sweaters and silks. Nothing puts my worries into perspective, calms my soul or ignites my imagination quite like the ocean…NeedTheSea2|WEARING| Ray-Ban sunnies, vintage jacket (I’ve easily worn it one million times), Primary sweater, Ann Taylor skirt NeedTheSea3I need the sea because it teaches me,
I don’t know if I learn music or awareness,
if it’s a single wave or its vast existence,
or only its harsh voice or its shining
suggestion of fishes and ships.
The fact is that until I fall asleep,
in some magnetic way I move in
the university of the waves.
~ Pablo Neruda, On the Blue Shores of Silence

    Lovely photos, and lovely poem, although it’s from “The Sea” in “On the Blue Shores of Silence: Poems of the Sea” (not awareness).

    Beautiful surroundings (and outfit)! I’m 100% with you about the calming effects of the ocean. A beautiful beach house is on my wish list, but for now I will settle for my balcony facing the East River. A gal as to start somewhere, right! :-)

      I’d say you’ve got it pretty good!

    Kelly ~ Beyond your lovely looks and sartorial expertise, it is obvious to me that you have such a beautiful soul. I always look forward to reading your musings and getting a peek inside your ever-evolving and creative mind. I’ve been spending a ton of time by the water lately after recently moving to Southeast Asia and have been finding such a dose of awareness becoming one with the waves. Thank you for sharing this poem & your light. xxx Amanda http://www.thetravallure.com

    Lovely photos, as always. We are in that strange in-between with the weather here, too – warm enough to start heading to the beach, but not warm enough for summer living just yet!

    Glad to see that jacket is getting so much use – it’s gorgeous!

    “I need the sea because it teaches me,” wow, what a beautiful quote. The sea is definitely a place where people can reflect and center themselves. The jacket and skirt are both adorable, and definitely go along with the environment. Keep up the great blog posts! I love reading them!
