Summer is winding down, but there is still so much to celebrate. I’ll soon be packing my bags to head back to the city, but am so grateful for the time I’ve had out East this season, and the friends and work and love that have been made. I look forward to seeing how each of these forces carries into fall, how the energy of creativity evolves with the impending season. But first! I have to thank all the wonderful people who have made this moment in time so memorable ~ like my sister (who allowed me to run away from home), my love (who encourages and inspires me every day), Jamie (with whom I’ve been traipsing through the woods, making the most meaningful work of my life ~ just wait till you see what we’ve got coming!), and so many other precious friends, both old and new. In their own ways, both Athena Calderone and the sisters Kosann were catalysts for this period in my life ~ so I have to thank both of them for writing such beautiful features on TURF, Zach’s magical surf oasis restaurant.|ABOVE| Our BoomCase boombox and milkshake makerAll of these friends have enriched my life in a way words cannot say, and I know what a lucky gal they make me. |ABOVE + BELOW| I never would have guessed that a 1967 airstream and a couple beat-up surfboards would be the canvases that would finally get me painting again. Life is filled with surprises! If you find yourself out on Long Island this Labor Day weekend, I hope you’ll make your way to Montauk to experience TURF (hidden away in the ‘Dirt Lot’ at Ditch Plains beach), and that in doing so you’ll feel all the positive energies that have been put into it ~ not just by Zach and me, but by all the beautiful people in our community who have become a part of it as well. |ABOVE| I adore these two cuties! |BELOW| I’m wearing the DIY jeans from THIS POST For all the happiness it’s brought me, this summer hasn’t always been easy ~ but that’s real life, and it’s the challenging times that make the sweet ones so sweet. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat, except I know that whatever lies ahead will be just as incredible. Please take a moment to read both Eye Swoon and The New Potato, who have written such beautiful tributes to our summertime serenity. And thank you for always supporting me and this site ~ it’s been five fabulous years now!
