Hollywood, to me, is all about fantasy. It’s lights, camera, script, actress ~ action! It’s truth and it’s lies and it represents a coming-together of diverse artistic specialties like no other industry in the world. It is fascinating. In my simplified vision, there are two reigning archetypes ruling this scene: the silver screen queen and the rock n’ roll rebel. The Marilyn Monroe-esque ingenues, and the Jerry Hall brand of beautiful bad girls. Of course, it’s the latter that really revs up my imaginative engine. I love a troublemaker.Conversely, my friend and creative partner Jamie Beck is all about an unspoiled sweetness, and I believe it’s this dichotomy that makes us a great team. If we agreed on everything it wouldn’t be as interesting! So, when we were out in LA for the Oscars, we decided to duke out our differences in our favorite way: through fantastical fashion photos. We cast actress Estella Warren in the dueling roles of our respective dreams: the starlet and the siren.
Because of our work with LoveGold, we were allowed unprecedented access to the Fred Leighton archives ~ a candy store of historical red carpet memories. I pulled iconic, classical pieces originally worn by Jackie Kennedy for Jamie’s story, plus a tougher chic assortment for the version you see here. I was imagining Talitha Getty partying across Marrakech, the cover girls of the Roxy Music world, and of course, of Jerry Hall on tour with the Rolling Stones in the seventies. She’s a girl for whom the road is home, the one who can break any bad boy ~ but can never herself be tamed. Luxury, for her, is the only option, and no metal matches her fervor quite like gold.
