Who Doesn’t #LoveGold

28th February, 2013

Growing up in Texas, I dreamed of a more glamorous, glittering life. I dreamed about an apartment in New York City, a job that allowed me to blossom creatively, of traveling the world, wearing beautiful dresses and lots of gold jewelry. I wanted to live in a spectacular reality and now, on really good days, I do. I’m constantly grateful for that, but was made especially aware of how far I’ve come when LoveGold invited me to join them in Los Angeles for the week of the Oscars, to collaborate on a series of marvelous projects. Never have I said yes so wholeheartedly!Gold has always seemed magical to me. As a little girl, I saw it as something very unattainable and adult. As a grownup, I finally get to wear it, and it’s become a sort of talisman to me ~ part of my armor, my visual identity. It has a rhythmic warmth that’s lacking from silver or platinum, a confident, regal aura. I respond to it in a way that I can’t really explain; I have just always loved it.Before the Oscars in LA, suites are set up all over the city, from which stylists may pull jewelry for their clients to wear on the red carpet. Usually these are specific to one designer or house, but LoveGold ~ whose mission is to maintain the longstanding legacy of gold jewelry ~ hosted a beautiful cottage adjacent to the Chateau Marmont, presenting an illustrious array of different designers.Jamie and I visited our first afternoon in town, where she manned the lens while I raided the trove, pulling jewels for a slew of shoots and a few actresses I was styling. This is a lovely way to spend one’s day. I got to see fresh designs from some of my favorite jewelers, and was introduced to a few new friends:
