Channeling CBK

1st October, 2012

After seasons and seasons of really cool girls and forward-thinking designers telling us that the 90s are back, I’ve finally warmed up to the trend. For me, it started when I was styling Chelsea Leyland, and trying to channel her own, authentically neo-nineties aesthetic. Really digging into the idea made it suddenly more appealing to me. From there, I got hooked on the look of high waists and cropped tops, Tom Ford-for-Gucci-level plunging fronts, elegant loafers and anything that could have hung in Carolyn Bessette Kennedy‘s closet.
The one thing I’m convinced is better this time around? Zip-front jeans. Finally, a silhouette that allows you to wear flats and still get the leg-lengthening illusion of heels. A vacuous victory, yes ~ but a victory nonetheless.|KELLY WEARS| Westward\Leaning sunnies, Honor blouse, Hudson jeans, bag courtesy of Gucci, vintage Oscar de la Renta shoes (originally procured for THIS SHOOT ~ and used in my favorite shot!), Jennifer Zeuner and Catbird jewelry|PHOTOS| by Jeremy James

i love the look of zip front jeans! at almost 6′ tall you better believe i’ve met some awkward fitting jeans in my life and i’ve always found that slicing the bottom open works wonders. so glad to see designers catch on and have this look come into style! absolutely (as always) love your stunning jewelry in these shots and don’t even get me started on those SHOES!

Love the rocker-cool vibe. I’ve seen quite a bit of 90’s-channeling that feels stiff and costume-y, but this looks is such a well-styled nod to the era that it’s contemporary and nostalgic at the same time. Well played!
