Though yesterday was surprisingly lovely, the past few weeks have been nothing but muggy and yucky in New York. For days, nothing in my closet felt bearable against the humidity and heat. So, on a whim, I went into American Apparel and bought 10 of these boxy cotton shirts, in an array of colors. So crisp! So cool!     I fully understand. I live on a Mediterranean island in the sun and am used to humid warm sticky weather. The shirts seem a good idea but what I find most soothing is loose flowing dresses which are mostly sleeveless. The problem is that most indoor places have air-conditioning which chills the life out of you and freezes you to death, drying the sweat on your back and causing you muscle pains. So I have learnt that it’s convenient to carry around in my bag any one of my assorted selection of large & lightweight shawls, scarves or wraps which I chuck over my shoulder to avoid the chill and once back out in the sun – I just pull it off. Love the hat too!
