9th March, 2012

Giving little grunge, by way of a waffle-weave knit and a shredded plaid dress with spikes instead of buttons (as always, click the pics to enlarge these details), plus a splash of glamour, courtesy of pointed-toe pumps and gilded accessories. Besides that, I’ve noticed that this dress-over-pants silhouette has been making a big comeback recently, and wanted to experiment with it a bit. How do you feel about the look; will you be giving it a go?

Wearing: Tiffany & Co sunnies, Halston Heritage trench, Renee C. sweater, gifted Stylestalker dress, Anya Hindmarch clutch, Hudson python print jeans (previously seen HERE and HERE), Charles Jourdan pumps (similar style HERE; I loved them so much I bought a matching set for my sister!), plus necklaces by Bauble Bar (seen in better detail HERE) and Alexa Leigh, and my standby Fendi watch. My nail polish is Estee Lauder‘s Enchanted Garnet.

I probably won’t be trying the trend myself as I am really really tiny and I have to be careful with my proportions, but I really am loving all of the layering here and you are just an amazing stylist period so you pull things off sartorially that I could never see myself doing in a million years!!

Love the red shoes! I tried a similar layered look on my blog back in January, with an Old Navy open weave sweater, white cuff shirt, denim leggings, and platform over-the-knee boots. I called it Pocahontas Reboot.

you’re incredible — but i think the site has gotten too difficult to navigate since the layout change. :(

I’m sorry that you’re having trouble with it. I am working with someone to improve the usability and should have the kinks worked out soon. Please be patient! In the meantime, if you have specific suggestions, I’d love for you to email them to me. It would be so helpful.

Some categories seem straightforward, but as to ppecific navigatin issues…it would be nice to have sub-categories under home, beauty or fashion to find DIY or jewelry or a specific month.  Otherwise, the look is nice, but in the case of  the  smaller photos under the larger home photo, is not intuitive as to where you’re goin to be sent when you click on these…perhaps a graphic text would be helpful.  Love your style!  My closet will never be the same!

  • Dana

You look in every look great! But it is not to cold for the shoes and naked feets??? :)

It’s slowly but surely starting to feel like spring! This outfit was actually perfect for the in-between-seasons sort of weather we’ve been experiencing in New York. Plus, I’ll take any excuse to get out of tights and into cute shoes ;)

  • Little Red Purse

Love that plaid top! The frayed edges are awesome.

  • ClosetConfections

I can’t believe it I’m actually digging a grunge look, lol!  The red heels are key (as combat boots would’ve taken it too far in the other direction).  As for dresses over skirts… I think I will give it a go this season. :-)

Thanks for the inspiration as always!

  • Ewa P

I don’t know if I would call this grunge, but it’s definitely on the casual side for your casual! I love those shoes, they look amazing.
I’m impressed that it’s warm enough in NYC to wear that outfit – fills me with envy.

Slowly, but surely I’m getting more adapted to navigating this layout and it looks great!

Looves it – You look super comfy without sacrificing any style whatsoever! Like upscale “smells like teen spirit” – and those shoes are RAD!

  • Chelsey

I LOVE this outfit in it’s casualness, and your blog used to be my absolute favorite, but the new layout is rather difficult to navigate… I read in a previous comment that you’re working on it, so I look forward to coming back every day again!

  • thankfifi

Love the way you styled it, a bit of grunge always appeals to me esp when paired with glamour (ai!) – not sure I’ll be rocking this trend though, my husband once told me dresses over jeans are for fat girls :( but check back with me when it’s all over the blog world and probably, I’ll be doing it too!x

  • ishara

love the heels, they are just to cute for words

  • Leslie

As a 55 year old fashion lover, the dress over pants gives me a way to wear all those cool dresses which I think are now inappropriately short. I’m definitely going to give it a go, and hopefully can pull it off with as much panache as you do! The whole outfit is fab!

  • Inés

    Those pumps!…I want/need them!

    Have the best weekend!

  • Julia

U have very nice legs, I like how the shoes go with jeans

  • Mary

i love the way you’ve layered this!

  • Missrockcouture

I love the dress! I’d probably try the dress over jeans look especially with skinny jeans and jeggings everywhere! In high school, this look was a big hit too. One day everybody just seem to be wearing mini skirts over boyfriend jeans. It wa super cute, but then again it might’ve just been worn for the purpose of meeting dress codes!

    With hearts,

  • Natalie Rebuck
