as the title of this post suggests, the costumery enclosed was inspired by paul mazursky‘s 1978 film, an unmarried woman ~ the story of a lady who finds unexpected liberation after her husband leaves her for a younger lass.
oftentimes described as ‘the original sex & the city‘, its message of feminine independence remains imminently modern ~ and the flick’s look is having its own resurgence this season.
i kept thinking about the attitude of its heroine, erica benton, during new york fashion week, as so many collections (like marc by marc jacobs) seemed merrily mired in the silhouettes of the seventies. this is my own ode to the era.
