lately, there’s been a lot of haute talk bandied around the interwebs about man repelling ~ and while i am certainly a proponent of dressing for fashion over fornication, there’s still something to be said for the kinds of clothes that gentleman enjoy. and i don’t mean naughtily-little-bitty numbers, but unapologetically pretty, figure-flattering frocks ~ the likes of which alice & olivia churns out consistently and (seemingly!) effortlessly every season. here are a few of my favorite moments from their recent presentation at the plaza hotel:

    yes, i agree. while it is fun to wear things men hate, it is also awesome to dress up in a cute little number– a vintage dress or even a conservative jackie o type of dress, and to feel really attractive. i love the lace heels, although could never actually walk in them!

    The textures and patterns are so rich and voluptuous. Although it’s a clash between so many fabrics it looks like a complete look, everything matches so well together. Rich fabrics are not easy to wear, but they look stunning and they are just gorgeous. No question about that. The color pallet is very interesting to me, I cannot; the colors are earthy and neutral but not dull (probably because of the shiny fabric). The lace shoes are my favorite, the remind me of a little bag by Dior. Have a stylish time in Milan and welcome to Europe.

    Being from the south, I couldn't agree with you more.. Dressing to me isn't about repelling men, but looking sophisticated and a little lady-like. Thank you for bringing attention to A&O;, they've always been one of my favorite designers.

    I agree! There's nothing wrong with looking pretty & feminine~ in fact, I'm a big proponent of it. Love the cat eye & matte lip with the clothing. Reminds me a little of Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface, no?

    I couldn't agree with you more – I think a real man can recognize style and sophistication when they see it… I would feel flirty and feminine in any one of those outfits!!

    This post kind of rubbed me the wrong way. You are very talented, take some great pictures and post concise commentary but there's no need to put down the man repeller and even less need to dress for one (a man) – idk, if your style is much more feminine and simple than not i think that's fine but why can't it be that way because you prefer it?

    I'm getting pretty philosophical for a late thurs morning when I haven't had so much as a drop of coffee but normally you come off as a smart, self aware lady and one that does what she wants, because she wants to do it. Would be a shame to see that change.

    such exquisite textures! it was all i could do to resist the urge to reach out and touch my computer screen. and i agree with you, man repelling is a wonderful art form, but i know if i wore anything from alice & olivia, my boyfriend would love it

    I love the menswear inspired tailoring of their pants paired with the sparkle and shine of the tops and dresses. But when did we stop dressing for ourselves?! Putting on an outfit that you feel confident and sexy in is going to appeal more to a man than the actual outfit in my opinion. Love the new alice + olivia collection!

    It's really nice to hear your comments on the whole man-repelling craze. I thought I was the only one who just wanted to feel pretty and girlie no matter who's looking. Alice + Olvia, really does to a great job with feminine pieces, even when they are giving menswear a bit of a nod.

    just popping in to reiterate that I LOVE THE MAN REPELLER!!! she is amazing, and a friend. i just think it's nice to remember that all sorts of perspectives make fashion (and personal style) interesting ~ even men's!

    ultimately though, we should always dress in the way that makes US most happy!!! sometimes that means pretty dresses, sometimes that means leopard print suspenders.

    These clothes are beautiful, to be sure. However, I'm disturbed by your obvious disrespect for Leandra. There's no need for that. There is ample room for both points of view, both types of "costumery."
    I hate it when women think that they can only get ahead by disrespecting one another. Very sad. I would have expected better from you.
