  • Jenmarie

I don't think I will ever look at a piece of old furniture the same again!

  • My Style Advice

very creative! I love all the white you decorate with. I have a white kitchen. It used to be dull dark yellow, but now its so fresh and bright and clean feeling. I love it!

  • Chelsey

    Definitely inspired! You're so creative!

    xo Chelsey

  • Lauren

GIVEAWAY: Patricia Field Glovettes & Chain Vest Necklace!

I have to say I think I like the foot stool best in it's natural wood form, but I think you did a great job painting it and it does go with your decor. I love what you did to the dresser than one did need the paint to work.

  • Summer

    Wow! You completely transformed those!!!

I love how a new paint coat can completely change a piece of furniture.

    visit me 😉 xoxo Summer

  • Jean

When I saw your feature on Apartment Therapy, your design-oriented "open mind" is exactly what struck me as the most vital part of your taste! Thanks so much for showing these before and afters – they're going to be my inspiration for looking for the potential in items from now on.

  • Stella

Amazing. I'm moving in to a new place as well, and trolling the classifieds/craigslist for stuff. I also saw the apartment tour you mentioned in a previous post. Your apartment is great!

  • Death By Shoe

That stepping stool is too cute – I absolutely love it!! I have an old dresser lying around too and I think you may have inspired me not to throw it away 🙂

  • The Village Idiot

love the pieces! the thing i love is the thrill of the hunt when finding pieces.

  • Pauline Designs

Looks fabulous!! Much more elegant than the cardboard box full of books I used for my dog when he was a pup! He doesn't need one now (lab/collie mix) but I did have to get a new, higher bed so that he could still sleep under it. 😉

  • Kim

I'm impressed! It looks really good, very trendy. I probably would fail terribly if I attempted to do this, I have no patience for these things 🙂 Or it takes me five times as long!

  • fashionsdirtylaundry

    Great lines + Paint= Inspirational

  • Sing

Two fantastic projects, that retro dresser is amazing!

  • Anonymous

    This is amazing !

  • adenaDesigns

Great job! I'm sure the pup appreciates the step stool. One note of caution for you though, when using the step stool. I had one like that once to access the tippy top of my closet. Because it doesn't have anything on the back side to stabilize it, it's very easy to tip over if you're standing on the top step (I know because it happened to me!) But it looks great!

  • joelle van dyne

dang, adding to the list of things i want to hire you for: 1. purging my closet, 2. decorating my apt, 3. doing some DIY to my shabby (non)-chic furniture. these transformations are amazing! ~joelle

  • Anonymous

looks amazing!! do you think you could tell us what paint colors you used for the furniture?

  • Anonymous

Beautiful! I hope you will consider posting a video tutorial to youtube. I would love to know more about techniques/type of paint used, etc.

  • Martini

Oh wow! I'm super inspired. I took some time last weekend to paint some frames bought at a thrift store. I'm looking for a night stand and think that I will use your two tone approach. Thanks!

  • valerie

Kelly I'm curious what paint you use??? I have repainted things and I've had it chip which does not look so cute- I was not going for shabby chic!

and I just want to say that I have been dreaming about that dresser since you posted the original apt therapy post and I CAN'T believe you had DIY'ed it! thought for sure you had paid quite a bit for it! I am officially inspired!!

  • Mary Ann

  • Genevieve

So very inspired to tackle an Edwardian dresser and a Vaudville-esque mirrored room divider this weekend. Merci!

  • Kristen Leotsakou

oh my efing God!!! you transformed two hideous pieces of furniture into two of the best i have seen!!! you are a DIY queen!!!! esp the first one i could never imagine such a thing actually having prospects of being so fantastic! i see stuff like that in the trash all the time! maybe i should take a closer look i guess…

  • My Dressy Ways

First off, I fricken love your apartment and upon seeing the pics wanted to immediately go home, throw everything out and start over.

I've tried to paint furniture myself but have never felt it to be an easy process! Is there something wrong with me? I've tried spray paint AND latex paint and don't like either. Am I just not cut out for it? Would you share your method with us?

  • “VishĂ e PuĂ ”

This is probably my first comment here but I am a huge fan of your blog! I've seen the picts of your apartment and I must say it's sooooo inspiring! You did a great job with these pieces!

  • MsGolightly

Ms Glamourai, thoroughtly enjoying catching up on your recent posts. Your new apartment looks divine. I've recently revamped a dressing table too, but I used black flock wallpaper to cover the drawers. Really easy-peasy project and my boudoir is now complete…except I'm now eyeing up a chest of drawer to re-love!
    MsGolightly xoxo
PS Brass reindeer/gazelle..I want one too. Can you share where you found him, but just with me!!!

  • Franzi

wow, this is amazing! i had to look twice to see that it really is the SAME dresser/bedside stool!
    xoxo F

  • April

you know the finish on that dresser? it's not woodgrain. it's an old early 20th century technique to use paint – yes, paint, by hand – to simulate woodgrain. it's a gorgeous thing, and today it's next to impossible to find anyone who can do that. and now it's gone.

  • Lisa Griffin

you are so patient with the creative painting! i need a step like that for my little charlie

  • chantalhughes

stunned by the transformation! thanks for sharing.
